Workers 'may be prepared to accept pay freezes'

Workers in the UK may be willing to accept pay freezes in light of the ongoing economic difficulties, it has been claimed.

According to Lewis Campbell, a spokesperson for Keep Britain Working, many individuals will be prepared to go along with halts to remuneration increases if it helps to secure their roles.

However, such measures must be viewed as just, he noted, suggesting that managers and those at the very top of organisations should also be subject to such freezes if they are deemed necessary.

He stated: "Above all, any changes in working conditions must be seen to be fair and to impact on all levels of staff."

Mr Campbell's comments come in the wake of remarks made recently by the Trades Union Congress, which suggested that stopping wage rises may have a detrimental impact on the economy.

It claimed that such moves would reduce consumer demand and threaten the recovery.
