Workers 'now looking more closely at employer benefits'
Posted by Helen Jones
Employees across all sectors are beginning to think more carefully about benefit packages offered by their company following the recession, an expert has said.
Matt Duffy, partnerships manager at Lorica, believes the global economic downturn has sharpened the minds of many workers in terms of which aspects of their outgoings could be covered by their employer.
Mr Duffy explained that a growing number of Britons are "looking to see what benefits are provided to them by their employers that could actually replace insurance-based products that they've taken out at home" as a way of cutting their expenditure.
For instance, he noted that individuals may decide against having personal life assurance as they realise they are covered by company-wide policies.
Recent research by the Canada Life Group established that 61 per cent of people now take any such benefits on offer when agreeing to start a new job, which represents a nine per cent rise on the figure recorded in 2009.
