Workers with mental health problems 'still face discrimination'
People with mental health problems still face discrimination in the workplace, it has been claimed.
According to a spokesperson for Time to Change, there remain deeply entrenched attitudes towards the issue among British employers.
He said that the organisation does not encourage people to avoid telling employers that they have a mental health problem but it recognises that such divulgences may make people vulnerable.
It is therefore calling for tighter discrimination legislation.
The spokesperson added: "The implications of not being honest is that once the company finds out that you need time off due to ill health, they may not look favourably on your position. Some will offer support, others may not."
A report released last month by Time for Change suggested that more than nine in ten (92 per cent) of the British public believed that admitting to having a mental illness would damage a person's career.
