Managers may have to monitor their younger employees closely to ensure they are not suffering from workplace stress, a specialist has suggested.

According to Kevin Friery, clinical director at Right Corecare, workers in younger age brackets are reluctant to ask for help from their boss even though they are more likely to require assistance then their older colleagues.

The latest GfK NOP International Employee Engagement Survey published recently (June 6th) showed that 39 per cent of staff members between 18 and 29 frequently feel anxiety in their workplace, in comparison to 24 per cent of those over the age of 60.

Mr Friery attributed this difference mainly to the fact that younger people tend to handle pressure differently and are "still at the beginning of their experience of being an employee".

"They need more support at that time," he added.

However, the expert went on to say that these people do not often request help from their superiors as they want to be perceived as "being very competent, confident and able".
